How It Works
FiverrI am sure you have heard of Fiverr. Fiverr is simply a micro-job website where you can earn $5 for every sale you make. But $5 is just the beginning. It’s a fast growing market place with millions of buyers and sellers and with a good strategy, you can easily make a good income.

Did you know 80% of the people who offer services via Fiverr do it the wrong way and end up making virtually nothing? Let me tell you how to do in right in Fiverr to set yourself up for success.

When you follow the steps I outline below, you will find that Fiverr is a goldmine – not only to make some extra side income but also as a reliable source of recurring revenue.

Check out these examples:

You will find hundreds of examples like this where people put in the time and effort to do it right and make a decent income from Fiverr. Many top sellers on Fiverr are earning more than $2500 per month with just 3-4 hours of work per day.

Here is How to Do It Right
Making money on Fiverr is a pretty simple and straightforward process. You put out a “service” offer known as a ‘Gig’ for $5. When someone purchases your service/gig Fiverr deducts a 20% commission, and gives you $4, which represents 80% of your earnings per sale. However, after a certain number of sales, you can offer upsells (called Gig Extras) for hundreds of dollars.

Offer a Gig You are Comfortable With
In order to avoid a burnout and to enjoy your work, offer a gig that you enjoy doing. It won’t feel like work and you will be able to provide excellent quality and value.

The best Gig ideas are small, scalable tasks that only take you a few minutes to complete. First, break down your skillset into a small piece of offering that it makes sense to sell starting at $5.00.  Here are a few things you need to consider:

  • Can you complete this task in 5-10 minutes?
  • Can you offer multiples of this task? Or can you offer this service in batches?
  • Are there extra services that you can bundle with this task?

Research Your Competition
Before you get too excited and offer your service for sale, do a little bit of research. It helps to know what other sellers are offering – so that you get a sense of how the market/demand is for your service. Think about:

  • How can you distinguish yourself from other sellers?
  • Are there many other similar gigs – i.e. too much competition?
  • Do you see a gap that you can help fill with your service?

If there are other people offering similar services, you can still succeed by thinking about how you can distinguish yourself from the rest.

Establish a  Process/System
Get organized and outline an exact step-by-step process for completing your gigs. This helps take the stress away and sets yourself up for methodical delivery of your gigs. Think about:

  • What tools or materials you need to deliver your gig?
  • How can you set up your home office / workspace for maximum productivity?
  • When (what time and which days) do you want to work on your gigs?

Make Your Profile Stand Out
Your profile helps “sell” your service to a prospective buyer. Make sure you stand out by creating a consistent and memorable personal brand:

  • Show your true face.
    • It’s human nature to want to see the face of the person behind a service.
  • Be smart about your gig description.
    • This is a valuable real estate. Focus first on writing a clear and sharp description of who you are then polish it by making more personable. Watch this video.
  • Highlight your skills.
    • Think of some creative ways highlight your skills. For example, if you are a designer, you should have an awesome and visually intriguing profile picture. Similarly, if you are a writer, an engaging and well written description goes a long way.

Take a look at profiles of other successful sellers and take note of their profiles. How do they stand out?

Add a Gig Video
Adding a gig video will help jumpstart your sales, especially if you are a new seller. The video can be very simple and you can use your smartphone to get everything done. This article has some good tips on creating a great gig video using your smartphone.

Are you shy on camera? That’s absolutely fine. Here are a few workarounds that do not require you to be in front of the camera:

  • Create a video presentation (slideshow) highlighting the key points of your gig. Be sure to have a nice background music. You can actually buy presentation videos on Fiverr and re-purpose them to suit your needs.
  • Create a video presentation like above. But instead of background music, use your voice to walk people through your presentation.
  • Creat a screencast. You can record anything you do on your computer and convert it to a presentation video. This works especially well if you are demonstrating a  service you perform on a computer (for example – how to use a software like Photoshop, how to draw something, etc. ). Jing is a great free tool to get this done quickly. And, there are many others.

Setup a Reasonable Gig Delivery Time
Customer feedback and reviews are the backbone of a thriving Fiverr business. Once your gig is set up, make sure you have selected an appropriate delivery time.

You might feel like you can accomplish a lot and make a lot of money by setting up an aggressive delivery timeline. But if you constantly feel burned out, you won’t be able to enjoy your work and deliver quality service.

Make sure you are giving yourself enough time to comfortably get the job done. This allows you to perform a quality work without stressing out too much, and sets realistic expectations from a customer – which in turn avoids potential bad reviews.

Be Smart About Your Gig Title
Take a look at some titles on home page.

The title of your gig should be concise and direct. Make sure your title is buyer-friendly by being precise about exactly what your gig is.

When creating the perfect buyer-friendly version of a  gig title, make use of capitalization. Fiverr allows you to use one CAPITALIZED word per gig title. Be sure to use that capitalized word to highlight the most important aspect of your gig.

Use keywords consistently in your gig title, description and tags. This will help improve your search ranking within Fiverr.  Also, create your username that has the keyword or a word related to the service you are providing. This helps you stand out and reinforce your gig to a buyer.
