Full Job Description

Production Editor I is responsible for production management and editing of assigned projects from production handoff to deliverable, on schedule and on budget. The ideal candidate is a resourceful self-starter who enjoys the challenges of working in a fast-paced environment and who creatively solves problems, looks for improvement opportunities, and has a proven track record for successfully delivering projects. The production management work includes planning, scheduling, tracking, problem-solving, and reporting on assigned projects. The production editing work includes reviewing and guiding the work of calc checkers, proofreaders, typesetters, production artists, SMEs, and other product team members. PEs also share responsibility for ensuring that the final product meets the product scope and PPI’s quality standards.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Drafting production plans, production scope documents, production schedules, and workflow; requesting resources
  • Setting up and maintaining production projects within existing project and content management systems, including Jira, Confluence, Excel/Google Sheets, ShareFile, and dedicated editorial/production servers
  • Coordinating and trafficking work in production in an efficient, timely manner to achieve deliverables on the production schedule
  • Reviewing work performed by SMEs, proofreaders, typesetters, artists to ensure adherence to production scope and PPI’s quality standards
  • Solving problems both independently and collaboratively to bring projects to successful completion within defined timeline and budgetary requirements
  • Managing production schedules to meet and enforce established deadlines, demonstrating awareness of the market and/or business needs driving the schedule
  • Providing regular reporting with identified roadblocks and proposed solutions on assigned projects
  • Light copy editing/proofreading, fact checking, enforcement of PPI style (using PPI Style Guide Merriam-Webster The Chicago Manual of Style )
  • Developing expertise in XML markup and tools (currently, Arbortext Editor, and Arbortext Content Manager), in order to be able to work hands-on within PPI’s content management system (CMS) to produce print and online products
  • Diplomatically and effectively communicating with product team members, including SMEs
  • Working with other departments as needed to collaborate on projects, including content, product management, program management, and marketing
  • Participating in continuous improvements to departmental or company processes
