Organizational Overview: Organizational Overview: DuPage Children’s Museum is nationally acclaimed for its interactive, hands-on experiences, carefully designed to foster curiosity, creativity, problem solving, and innovation through the power of play. With over 300,000 annual visitors, we partner with 38 school districts as well as approximately 60 social service agencies through our Community Access Network. We work directly with corporate and foundation supporters and rely on the work of more than 800 volunteers each year. We provide high-quality early learning resources for parents and offer professional development opportunities to caregivers and teachers. Job Summary:

The Learning Lab Facilitator (Education Outreach) is responsible for the facilitation of learning labs and other programs involving science, art, math, engineering, and programs involving the integration of these content areas. Programs take place in area schools, other community settings and in the Museum.

DCM’s Learning Lab Facilitators:

* Lead the facilitation of the Museum’s Learning Labs and other programs (Family Nights, scout programs, camps, etc.) in the areas of math, science, and engineering

* Follow the Museum’s educational philosophies of constructivist learning and open-ended facilitation

* Ensure that all appropriate materials are packed and ready for transportation

* Transport materials for programs using DCM vans and, occasionally, personal vehicle

* Monitor the condition of program materials, make minor repairs, or report major repairs

* Monitor needed supplies, restock when necessary, and report low stock supplies

* Assist in the continuing improvement of existing programs and the development of new programs

* Attend School Program meetings and trainings so as to stay current with improvements and changes to programs

* Attend periodic DCM staff meetings and training sessions

* Assist in the training of new Facilitators

* Work with volunteers during programs to ensure that they understand their role
Work with school or organization staff to find out program location, how best to unload and load, and other details for the day

Job Relationships:

Supervised by the School Program Manager and Assistant School Program Manager
Work closely with all other departments, especially floor staff to ensure quality communication when working at the Museum

Maintain excellent relationships with school and other organization personnel
Education and Experience:

* B.S. or B.A. in education preferred; or, B.S. or B.A. in a field related to math, science, and/or engineering

* At least 2 years of experience working with school-age children, preferably in a museum or other informal educational setting

Skills and Abilities:

* Ability to work in a team environment and work effectively with the public

* Must be able to handle a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings and weekends

* Must have computer skills involving, but not limited to, the Microsoft Office products

* Must have own transportation, valid Illinois driver’s license, and appropriate liability insurance

Other Requirements:

* Be able to visually keep track of visitors, materials, and exhibit functioning

* Comprehend and speak English extensively and clearly

* Be able to hear children’s voices

* Be able to assist visitors and other staff in an emergency situation

* Display the dexterity necessary to maintain exhibits and exhibit environments

* Manipulate exhibit components and facility operating/maintenance equipment

* Be able stand and walk around for extended periods of time

* Climb up and down stairs

* Be able to bend, kneel, climb, and reach

* Display rapid response times

* Lift 50 pounds

* Tolerate noise and dust in the environment and handle disinfectant and cleaning materials
