Overview

Working as independent contractors from their home offices, the Elementary Language Arts Assessment Writers will be part of a curriculum development project to be implemented in the 2017–2018 school year. The writers are responsible for selecting, authoring, and revising traditional and technology-enhanced assessment items aligned to local and/or national curriculum standards, and creating well-aligned and valid formative and summative assessments. Effective communication with Curriculum and Instruction Management team, Assessment Design Specialists, Editors, and Program Managers is essential. Candidates with background knowledge and experience in online assessment design in the areas of Elementary Education are encouraged to apply.

These contractual positions are temporary and are usually paid per piece. These positions will be home-based and may be part-time or full-time.

Responsibilities:

1. Develop formative and summative next-generation online assessments to complement online curriculum for elementary language arts courses;

2. Author traditional and technology-enhanced items in a digital assessment authoring tool;

3. Work and meet with team of assessment design specialists, content editors, and copy editors to implement comprehensive and consistent assessment approach;

4. Maintain assessment item security;

5. Perform tasks with an extremely high degree of accuracy; and

6. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

1. Master’s degree in education, or Bachelor’s degree in educational psychology, educational measurement, or psychometry

2. Minimum of three (3) years successful teaching experience in language arts, or minimum of two (2) years of assessment design or psychometrics experience and one (1) year of successful teaching experience in language arts

3. Has knowledge of Common Core State Standards for elementary language arts

4. Has knowledge of next-generation assessment features, technology-enhanced items, online assessment, and national assessment protocols

5. Has knowledge of best practices for assessment authoring, alignment, and cognitive rigor

6. Must enjoy a challenging work environment that requires significant flexibility, self-direction, and creativity

7. Strong written and verbal communication skills

8. Technologically proficient, working knowledge of XML a plus

9. Excellent organization, time management, and attention to detail skills

10. Ability to effectively meet deadlines

11. Strong work ethic

12. Must be able to work effectively as part of a team and independently
