The Pelli Lab is looking for a part-time Assistant Research Scientist, non-exempt to implement software for REMOTE VISION TESTING (e.g. via Amazon mTurk) in p5.js and math.js. We have a working pilot version that needs to be debugged and polished. We already have polished MATLAB code “CriticalSpacing” that runs in-person vision testing (link (https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Silvia_Primativo/publication/291384408_A_clinical_test_for_visual_crowding/links/56a89f6e08ae0fd8b40008f8/A-clinical-test-for-visual- crowding.pdf)). We want to implement that functionality to run remotely, so that we can crowd-source through Amazon mTurk or www.prolific.co
We will offer the resulting software as open source to the vision-research community so there is potential for wide use and visibility. Professor Pelli coauthored the PsychToolbox package for vision research which is used by thousands of labs, and has been cited 18,000 times (http://psychtoolbox.org (http://psychtoolbox.org/)). The task is to implement as an online test the performance of our existing in-person test (MATLAB CriticalSpacing https://f1000research.com/articles/5-81/v1 (https://f1000research.com/articles/5-81/v1)).
Professor Pelli will supervise through weekly lab meetings including scientific collaborators. Professor Pelli (http://denispelli.com (http://denispelli.com/)) will evaluate progress relative to a time table written and periodically updated collaboratively with the persons appointed.
Interested applicants should submit an application via Interfolio.
