Overview

Responsible for providing tutoring to Brandman University students. Offers writing assistance through the online submission system, virtual appointments, writing tutorials and workshops, and other assistance, as appropriate. Perform all duties in accordance with the University’s policies and procedures, all US state and federal laws and regulations, wherein the University operates. This is a part time remote position up to 19 hours a week.

TYPE OF SUPERVISION:

Receive supervision from the Tutoring Program Manager.

Supervision — indicates that the incumbent performs a variety of routine duties within established policies and procedures or by referral to the supervisor’s guidelines.

POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Percentage

* Prepare tutoring materials and appropriate learning activities for OWMC workshops and small groups to support student learning goals. 25%

* Determine and prepare appropriate resources to supplement 1-on-1 tutoring sessions including any specialized writing assistance to students whose primary language is not English as well as those with disabilities.20%

* Review and offer feedback on essays submitted through the online submission system.20%

* Collaborate with faculty and other writing tutors to identify student writing needs.15%

* Maintain and communicate records of student progress, as needed, including challenges and successes.10%

* Communicate with faculty as assigned/requested to provide comprehensive writing support for students in their respective programs.5%

* Perform other duties, as assigned.5%

POSITION SPECIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

* Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar

* Skilled in using virtual communication software such as Adobe Connect, ZOOM, Hangouts, Slack, email, etc.

* Skilled in Google Suite tools for collaboration with team members and students

* Excellent communication skills to provide clear and concise feedback to students, teachers, and staff

* Ability to develop content for asynchronous trainings/workshops for the resources section of the OWMC website

* Ability to develop and teach online workshops

* Ability to maintain strict confidentiality with regard to student needs

– Ability to work online to provide services to students and meet with team members

– Ability to occasionally work weekends and/or evenings

* Fluency in spoken and written secondary language, preferred

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATION AND/OR LICENSES:

* Bachelor’s degree in English, rhetoric/composition, or related field

* Master’s degree, preferred

* Experience with computer-enhanced writing instruction, preferred

* Experience working in an online setting, preferred

– Experience teaching and/or tutoring ESL and/or ELL students in an online setting, preferred

* TESL or TESOL Credential, or other credential in a field related to teaching English language learners, preferred

* College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) Certification, preferred
