Aurea is looking for an experienced Database Administrator to join our Managed Services Delivery team. Our ideal candidate is a highly motivated, goal-oriented, team-focused engineer with a passion for supporting customer facing services, processes, systems and infrastructure. This position will work to assure the overall availability and performance of production services against availability and quality SLAs. They will respond to alerts or events that impair or degrade service or could cause outages that impact availability. They will identify root causes, single points of failure, and eliminate them through remediation and execution.

Job Description

This job requires a high level of expertise in administration, development, backup, recovery, and tuning of database products and components. The successful candidate must be able to proactively plan, implement, and maintain DB operational services, backup and recovery; scaling and capacity planning activities; and administration and management of all database software patches and upgrades. This role will also support the database application programming activities of engineering or professional services staff as needed. The candidate will also work in day-to-day troubleshooting of application issues and data fixes. They must be able to handle heavy work-loads, multi-task efficiently and be able to switch gears in a moment’s notice. This position is 100% remote.

Key Responsibilities

* Analyze processing issues and data anomalies and identifying solutions

* Responsible for ensuring availability and performance of all databases

* Work with infrastructure staff to ensure that needed system resources are allocated to the databases and to ensure high availability and optimal performance

* Proactively monitor the database systems to ensure secure services with minimum downtime

* Installation of database software and related products. Managing the patching process for the servers and database software

* Provide daily production support and troubleshooting as needed to resolve issues as quickly as possible

* Detailed knowledge and experience with database backup and recovery, export/import, tools and techniques.

* Ability to perform all types of data and instance recoveries under various scenarios

* Responsible for problem escalation to development team, vendors or third party service providers as appropriate

* Analyze, develop, test and implement database designs in support of strategic or technology maturation requirements

* Responsible for implementation or oversight and release of database changes

* Ability to support a 24×7 mission-critical database environments

* Responsible for data loading, security, performance monitoring and tuning, capacity planning, backup and recovery

* Responsible for ongoing maintenance and patching of database products

Required Experience and Education

* Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, MIS, or related fields

* 5+ years of relevant experience as an MySQL Database Administrator in a production environment

* Database Administration experience in Oracle and MSSQL is desired as well.

* Experience of working in a team that delivers a high availability service

* Practical experience in monitoring and tuning databases to provide high availability service

* Professionalism at all times, especially when resolving customer challenges

* Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

* Effective time-management skills

* High levels of organization

* Excellent communication abilities


* Experience with configuring and maintaining virtual servers

* Experience with application performance assessment and improvement

* Experience with AWS cost optimization and service management

* Experience with distributed team leadership
